Where I stand
Fisheries
As a commercial setnet fisherman in Kasilof for the last 57 years, I understand how important healthy fisheries are to our economy and livelihoods. Fisheries should be managed by biologists, not politicians. I'm deeply committed to sustainable fishing practices, promoting and protecting local subsistence, charter, and commercial fishing resources. More must be done to reduce trawl by-catch.
Education
Supporting our students and educators is a vital part of my campaign. It’s why I chose to run and a clear contrast between me and my opponent. We must adequately fund our education system to obtain and retain high quality teachers. I’m committed to raising and inflation-proofing the BSA and securing defined benefits for public employees. Our students should have the resources they need to succeed in their educational pursuits.
Energy
Sustainable oil and gas exploration can be encouraged without large subsidies. I support renewable energy sources including solar, wind, hydro, and tide power. The price of oil and gas will rise naturally which will increase the need for energy diversification.
Seniors
I have long been a steadfast advocate for seniors including significant involvement at the Ninilchik Senior Center. I support the senior property tax exemption. I am running to make life more affordable for seniors.
Freedom
I will support and protect the freedoms and privacy rights of all Alaskans, including the right to reproductive freedom. The government should not be involved in our private lives.
Jobs and Economic Opportunity
As oil revenues decline, economic diversification will be necessary to ensure Alaskans provide for ourselves and our children's needs. I will support growing our economy and creating good high paying Alaskan jobs.
Subsistence
I support the 2nd amendment and the rights of Alaskans to subsistence hunting and fishing.
